Our Learning Environment

As a Montessori, we strive to ensure our environment encourages and assists the development of all the children in our care, to become confident, capable and valued individuals. This is why all our rooms are light, airy, and beautifully decorated. All our equipment is modern as well as age and stage appropriate. We encourage the use of natural and real life objects that develop curiosity, life skills, self-esteem and independence.

It has been widely studied and evidenced that children learn rapidly within the first seven years of life than at any other time, this is where our nursery plays a vitally important role. We support parents in fulfilling the requirements for their child’s complete physical, intellectual, social and emotional development, in a safe and caring setting. Our environments enable children to have independent as well as guided access to all 7 areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage and the 5 areas of the Montessori Curriculum.

Our Rooms

We believe a child’s age does not determine the access they should have to learning opportunities, therefore we don’t place children in rooms simply based on age, but carefully consider their ability as well. This is why our rooms are divided into stages not age bands.

Stage 1 – Panda’s
Stage 1 – Panda’s
Approximate age range 3 - 24 months

Ratio: 1 adult to 3 children minimum

The Panda Room is a large baby proof space where the little ones can move around and explore freely. Safe, stimulating activities with mirrors, soft play, quiet areas, indoor physical play, arts & crafts, sand, water and much more. The room is decorated with special consideration given to aiding young children’s Visual Stimulation using mostly blacks, whites and reds. The children have a dedicated sleep area for the all-important rest periods. Each child has their own bedding to ensure their safety.

Stage 2 – Penguin's
Stage 2 – Penguin's
Approximate age range 22 - 36 months

Ratio: 1 adult to 4 children minimum

The Penguin Room is designed for little feet, exploring and making sense of their world. Open shelves, comfy and cosy book corners, little tables and chairs, perfect for group activities. This area is intended specifically for learning through play with access to a range of malleable materials, soft play, puzzles, small world play and much more. Children also have access to a range of ICT equipment. Rest Pods are available for the child to crawl into when tired. A dedicated sleep area is available with rest mats and bedding for each individual child.

Stage 3 – Peacock’s
Stage 3 – Peacock’s
Approximate age range 34 - 60 months

Ratio: 1 adult to 8 children minimum

The Peacock Room is perfect for the young children, now flourishing into active and intuitive little learners. With independent access to a range of resources, opening them up to the world of science, maths, language, arts and crafts, reading and much more. Boasting a creative role play area and an impressive ICT corner. The Peacocks have free flow access to the outdoor play area throughout the day. Practitioners encourage independent learning as well as developing social skills through group activities, sharing & an introduction to rules, responsibilities and open communication.

Our Outdoor Learning Area

We believe the outdoors is an extension of the indoor learning, this is why we have a dedicated large soft surface garden that is well equipped and fully enclosed for safe and stimulating learning experiences. We encourage children to get fresh air, exercise and connect with nature.

The outdoor garden provides activities that include

  • balancing
  • building
  • growing
  • riding
  • water play
  • book corner
  • a treehouse for role play
  • experimenting
  • creative area
  • shaded area specifically for babies
  • tables for focus activities
  • seating area

We have free flow access for all children in the Penguin and Peacock rooms. The Panda’s come out to the garden at least twice a day. We provide rain cover overalls for all children so they can enjoy the garden in all weathers. We encourage parents to bring wellies for water play and splashing in puddles.
